Sepsis is a common and potentially life-threatening condition. It can be difficult to detect.
Early identification of sepsis and prompt treatment can help improve survival.
As with all infections, it is vital that we manage sepsis when it first develops and is less severe to reduce its incidence, impact and severity. This involves taking a whole-pathway approach, including:
- prevention
- patient and clinical education
- access to healthcare
- clinical assessment
- diagnostic tests
- treatment, monitoring and safety-netting
